I popped down to the weekly Stockport meet last night as I hadn’t been down for a weeks and I needed something to do to stop me from going into town and spending all my money on beer! I always enjoy local meets as cars from all scenes turn up, giving me the chance to see what people outside the Jap car community are doing with their cars.
Of course, it was the Jap cars that got most of my attention throughout the night but there were some equally awesome cars from other scenes; my favourites being an absolutely pristine Mini 1275GT, a sweet Fiesta and a matte black Nissan Micra. It takes balls to slam a Micra and give it some tasty wheels so I was equally impressed with the owner’s bravery!
Keeping up the retro theme was a pretty ghetto looking Ford Capri. Nevertheless it just oozed cool and was definitely a crowd pleaser.
There were also plenty of Jap rides to keep me happy, some of the standouts being a drift slag MkIII Toyota Supra and a pretty clean MkIV Supra, both of whom were treating the tarmac to some burnt rubber towards the end of the night. Car park burnouts in a little FWD hatchback aren’t cool, but when done by big power RWD cars there’s nothing better!
Later in the night a few more JDM-styled rides turned up, including an incredible Mk2 Supra and a pair of clean Civics (an EG hatchback and an EK coupe). My mate Andy also turned up in his latest acquistion, a Honda CRX Del Sol. I had a quick ride in it to see if it deserved its hairdresser image and to be honest by the end of it I was quite tempted to get one of my own.
Turnout-wise it took a while for the meet to pick up but it was well worth sticking around as cars kept on turning up until about 10pm. The general standard of cars was varied at best but there were more than enough high quality ones to make the visit worthwhile.
